Exhibitions

The Knipnäs building is large and offers several interesting potential exhibition spaces suitable for both larger and smaller art and craft works. Multiple artists can participate in the same exhibition period, which often lasts 3 weeks with opening hours from Friday to Sunday. Artists are welcome to organize additional programs and keep the exhibition open at times other than weekends. On weekends, someone from Knipnäs will be present to oversee the exhibitions.

KATJA HÄRKKI

Visual artist

Katja Härkki (born 1969, Helsinki) is a visual artist and painter living and working in Lahti. She graduated as a designer and Master of Arts in 1997 from the University of Art and Design Helsinki and as a visual artist from the Lahti Art Institute in 2014.

In her art, Härkki explores her own identity and what it means to be a woman in the present day. Other central themes in her work include the body, humanity, nature, and how we see ourselves in universal time. For her, creating art is a playful process where she can be bold, experiment, reflect, and communicate.

Härkki’s paintings are condensed situations, almost like intimate set pieces. They contain dreamlike, random moments, akin to memories in time. In her works, time and place intertwine, simultaneously hiding and revealing.

“Only a journey into my own mind and transforming its reflected images into more concrete, visual representations can help me understand my world and myself through the painting process.”

Härkki’s paintings can be found in the collections of the Tampere Art Museum, the City of Tampere, Jorvi Childrens Hospital in Espoo, and in private collections.

Her wall paintings are located at the Knipnäs Wellbeing Center in Tammisaari. If you wish to view these works, please get in touch.

Härkki is a member of the Finnish Painters Union, the Lahti Artists’ Association (where she also serves on the board and exhibition working group), the Tampere Artists Association, and the Päijät-Häme Museum Association board.
